Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

The American Heart Association ACLS course is totally redesigned to incorporate new science evidence from the 2005 Guidelines and a new teaching methodology. Through the ACLS course, healthcare providers will enhance their skills in the treatment of the adult victim of a cardiac arrest or other cardiopulmonary emergencies.

ACLS emphasizes the importance of basic life support CPR to patient survival; the integration of effective basic life support with advanced cardiovascular life support interventions; and the importance of effective team interaction and communication during resuscitation.

Each participant is evaluated individually on his/her ability to demonstrate core course knowledge and skills. This course will prepare you to work as a team member and team leader in a code situation. Course evaluation methods include a skill and practical evaluation using core-based scenarios and an evaluation of the participant's knowledge as measured by a written examination.

Participants seeking ACLS certification for the first-time must be proficient in the following prior to attending the course:

  • Performing BLS CPR using the 2005 AHA Guidelines for CPR & ECC
  • Reading and interpreting ECGs
  • Understanding ACLS pharmacology
  • Performing the BLS Primary Survey and the ACLS Secondary Survey

Course cost does not include the current ACLS Student Manual (pictured on the left) which is required to have prior to the course.

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

The PALS Provider course is designed for first-time participants, participants with expired PALS Provider cards or renewal participants who do not utilize PALS concepts on a regular basis.

The American Heart Association PALS course is being totally redesigned to incorporate new science evidence from the 2005 Guidelines and a new teaching methodology.

The goal of the PALS Provider course is to teach students how to recognize infants and children at risk for cardiopulmonary arrest, to provide students with strategies for preventing cardiopulmonary arrest in infants and children, and to teach students how to perform the cognitive and psychomotor skills  resuscitating and stabilizing infants and children in respiratory failure, shock, or cardiopulmonary arrest. Skills in bag-mask ventilation, management of  airway, defibrillation and cardioversion, use of AEDs for children, and rhythm management are emphasized.PALS emphasizes the importance of basic life support CPR to patient survival; the integration of effective basic life support with advanced interventions; and the importance of effective team interaction and communication during resuscitation.

BLS Healthcare Provider Course

The BLS for Healthcare Providers course teaches the skills of CPR for victims of all ages (including ventilation with a barrier-device, a bag-mask device), use of an AED on adults and children, and relief of FBAO in responsive and nonresponsive victims. Written and skills evaluation are required for course completion.

This is a Provider course designed for first-time participants and those who have expired cards.

The Current BLS textbook IS NOT INCLUDED in the cost. Participants must purchase the book prior to the class or at the door which will cost $15.00.

Heartsaver CPR Course

The Heartsaver CPR Course is modular and teaches lay rescuers how to recognize and treat life-threatening emergencies, including cardiac arrest and choking for adult, child and infant victims. Students also learn to recognize the warning signs of heart attack and stroke in adults and breathing difficulties in children. The program has three courses from which to choose.

Heartsaver AED Course

The Heartsaver AED Course was the first in the nation to combine hands-on AED instruction with adult CPR training. This course is for people who need to learn CPR and how to operate an AED. A pediatric CPR module can be added at the customer’s request.

Heartsaver CPR/First Aid Course

The Heartsaver CPR/First Aid Course includes essential information and training in the first-aid skills recommended by OSHA, all in a format that can be delivered in a single day. The course is modular to meet the needs of a specific workplace or group of employees. The core module comprises general principles, medical emergencies and injury emergencies.
